In an effort to promote and develop an awareness and understanding
of the role events and figures in Alabama played in the Civil Rights
Movement, “Alabama: Focus on Civil Rights” was developed.
Faculty from the College of Education at The University of Alabama
and teachers from the Tuscaloosa City and Tuscaloosa County school
systems collaborated to locate and develop the materials presented
on the Civil Rights Movement in Alabama.
Although the challenges we face do not begin and end with the
Civil Rights Movement, this period constitutes an important era
in the rich history of Alabama that must be addressed and understood.
